On the second day of the Tiger Year...let me just wish one and all Gong Hei Fatt Choy!! The days ahead are perilous, threatening to breach the balance of junk and healthy...but CNY's really one of the
Ridiculously long queues is a pre-requisite if you want your Bak Kwa well greased, fresh and straight off the rack. The new kid on the block this year has to be Kim Choo Guan, supplier of the ever famous Lim Chee Guan. Taste test for KCG did not wow me, felt it was on the sweet side.
Kim Peng Hiang makes me tick for CNY. Pineapple Bak Kwa no less.
2 hours I took. No mean feat for someone who'd probably only queue for her Ninewest pumps or the limited edition arm candy, under the sweltering heat no less. All I really needed was someone with a bulk order of 23 packets. I figure lady luck was shining on me when she bestowed me three such kind folks. KPH does little to alleviate the pain when all they have it just one poor weighing machine and a young girl who took pains to ensure uniformity in weight across all packages.
KPH's bak kwa slices are thick, meat's juicy and pineapple bits just add to the overall festivity of this sinful snack. Stop at one? Never, in a million calories.
