Dior: Precious Rocks Ruby Palette

When I was much younger, two of my best friends bought me a Dior eye shadow for my birthday. It was my introduction into high end make up and I treasured that eye shadow. I had never seen anything like it before and I actually still have it. Of course I wouldn't be able to use it as that was almost 10 years ago now but I keep it as a memento. It is possible that the Dior single eye shadow started my whole obsession with make up. Since then I have had a few Dior products but definitely not as many as I would like. After having this eye shadow from such a young age I have always had a fascination with Dior and I hold it in a very high regard. As I have said in all of my Christmas blog posts, there are certain brands I look to for their Christmas collections. I have to admit Dior isn't one of them. Even though I love the look of Dior products I was never compelled by their limited edition ranges, their standard range is special enough for me. However this year that all changed.

I originally saw the Dior Precious Rocks collection on In The Frow, she did a wonderful blog post all about the whole collection but one item really stood out for me, The 5 Couleurs Precious Rocks Palette in Ruby. I thought it looked absolutely stunning but I didn't know if it was going to suit me so I kind of dismissed it. Then I saw Sam from Pixiwoo use it in an alternative Halloween look and the look she created was incredible. After that I decided I wanted the palette. A couple of weeks later I was having lunch with my brother and he bought up Christmas presents. Any of you who have brothers, I'm sure are treated the same as I am, you never get a Christmas present. Ever since I started working I've bought all of my family presents, including my Brother and every year he has given me nothing. Just to clarify, I don't mind that he didn't get me anything, If I did I wouldn't have bothered buying him presents every year. Anyway this year my brother asked me what I wanted and if I let him know he would get it for me. Rather selfishly this palette sprang to mind, so I mentioned it to him thinking he would laugh at me and tell me to bugger off. My brother completely surprised me and said he would get it for me to make up for the years he hasn't got me anything. We marched to Boots and they of course did not have it. My brother said if I could find it online, he would buy it so I made it my mission to find it.

For weeks I looked for this bloody palette but it had sold out everywhere. I looked online and at every single counter I went to. One day I was looking at the New In page on John Lewis which is something I do quite often and they had 10 palettes in stock. I immediately messaged my brother to let him know. If you could see the amount of messages I sent him, you would not believe how needy and annoying I am. I hassled my brother for a good hour as I wanted to know if he had bought it because I was going to buy it for myself if he didn't get it. I sat there and watched the stock level for a while, the 10 that were in stock sold out in a matter of hours. He wouldn't tell me if he had managed to get one but he did tell me NOT to buy it. In the end when I got back from work he let me know as I had been hassling him that much and after that I had to wait until Christmas to get my hands on the actual palette.

This palette did not disappoint, it is more beautiful in real life than it is in all of the pictures I had seen of it. I tried it on Christmas day and wore it for the day. When I first put my brush into one of the shadows, it didn't seem to pick up much product but when I applied it, it had a great pigment. I've never looked at the Dior Christmas palettes before as the colours have always been a little out there for me. Also I had heard that the formulation of the shadows weren't very good. Not enough good things can be said about the formulation of these shadows. They are stunning, not only do they have a good pigmentation but they also have a super shimmery effect without containing glitter.

The thing that really attracted me to this palette was the colours, I most definitely do not have anything else like this in my collection. I have always been scared of pink shadows as they can run the risk of making it look like you have pink eye. However the shades in this palette are so shimmery that they couldn't possibly be mistaken. The only colour I wasn't sure I would actually use was the pale pink but it actually works perfectly for the inner corner. The two shades which really appealed to me were the two bottom shades, I thought they would make the most perfect eye look and with a touch of the centre shade on the eye lid, they made the perfect Christmas look and that was the look I wore on Christmas day.

The shadows are prismatic shaped, as if they were gemstones which is the inspiration for the palette. Dior really have thought out this whole collection and it has worked in their favour as it really is beautiful. Not only are all of the shades beautiful but they are long-wearing too. I applied the shadows in the morning at around 10 and then when we left the house at 4, I checked to see if it needed topping up and it didn't. The shadows still looked bold and shimmery. If all Dior shadows are like this then I most definitely need to invest in some more!

This palette did not come cheap at £43.50 and it only has 5 shades. When my brother went to pick it up, as he had done click and collect, he couldn't believe how small it was for the money. I guess only beauty lovers can understand the draw of such an expensive palette but I absolutely love everything about it. Unfortunately after the struggle I had trying to get this palette, I can safely say this palette has sold out but if it ever comes back this is seriously worth the investment. Dior is a brand that I don't buy from often enough and this palette had reminded me of how good their products are. If there are any Dior products you can recommend, please comment below!
