The other day, I made plans with some visiting couchsurfers to show them a little taste of how we celebrated Christmas in the city. Makati City, specifically. I kinda made an itinerary for them but since they were late (they were being hosted somewhere in the middle of nowhere), I had to adjust and make my list shorter.
After a few cocktails at Tapella in Greenbelt 5, we headed towards the Ayala Triangle Gardens for the Light Show.
The mini-show started around 6 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. with some intervals.
It was quite grand but one or two viewings would suffice for me.
My companions were Brazilian Rod together with Italians Eva and Roberto. They had just arrived in Manila and wanted to experience how Filipinos celebrated the holidays.
It would have been fabulous if the buildings surrounding the Ayala Triangle Gardens were also decked with Christmas decor and lights.
Next venue was a good dinner at JT's Manukan Grille for authentic Ilonggo comfort dishes like grilled chicken of paa and pecho, spareribs, sate babi ( my personal favorite ), dinuguan, atay, porbidang kangkong and batchoy.
It was a cool evening for walking and since we needed to burn off our dinner, we headed on foot towards Peninsula Manila. For sure, the lobbies of the major hotels in Makati would be a sight to behold for Christmas revelers.
The decor didn't disappoint. A well-lighted tree with angels lining up the entrance.
We loved the huge Gingerbread House.
The walls and decors were edible, I think.
A column made of marshmallows.
Rob literally had a taste of the column.
Next was Shangri-La Makati and the lobby was filled with Christmas trees with beautiful hanging angels by the winding staircases.
Dusit Thani Hotel had different Christmas trees on display in partnership with some education institutions.
One tree was filled with books.
The was one filled with toys.
Futuristic-looking one.
Techno-junk Christmas tree.
A traditional one with candy cans and teddy bears.
I was riveted to this tree with decorated faces. How macabre.
Our last stop was to grab a drink at the ongoing Cucina Andare! Night Market at Glorietta Park. It was almost 1 a.m. and the place looked tired and needed a lot of garbage cans. Nonetheless, the day went well and I think my guests enjoyed my tour. I know I did.
